My 2018 collection, “Rattle The Asylum Bars” is being released forty-nine years – almost to the day! – after the 1969 recording sessions for John Peel’s Dandelion Records which resulted in my first LP, “Beau”.

As always, I’m accompanied by my trusted Harmony 12-string guitar; and as always, the fare is varied. Amongst the topics for the new album; the tragic events at Charlie Hebdo in 2015, modern-day radicalising, prohibition America, the shifting politics of lottery winners and more. Even Adolph Hitler’s mother gets a look in!

Available as always from download sites around the world (including of course iTunes and the Amazons), “Rattle The Asylum Bars” also streams on Spotify, Deezer and all your other favourite streaming services. I hope you enjoy it!

To complement the album, we have “The Rose” – Cherry Red’s official video from the set; and it deserves a little explanation.

In 2000, a young student called Rachel Whitear was found dead on the floor of her digs in the English seaside town of Exmouth. The needle was still in her arm. To warn others against the danger of drugs, her parents bravely allowed the image of the scene to be published.

“The Rose” is told from the viewpoint of a medic attending such an event; one who’s weary of being called to these incidents but knows there’ll be many more.

Though the Rachel Whitear story is now history, the song is new. Some things leave a lasting impression. So, this is “The Rose”

Some reviewers’ thoughts on earlier Beau digital releases from Cherry Red:

Of ‘When Butterflies Scream’ (2017)
“Beau has the wonderful … ability to musically versify what is in the English psyche.” Brian R. Banks – It’s Psychedelic Baby (Slovenia)

Of ‘An Original Thought’ (2016)
“…a terrific batch of folk songs that would make Phil Ochs or even Robert Zimmerman proud … this guy is way too talented to be so unknown … maybe his time will come now.” Dagger Zine (USA)

Of ‘Shoeless In The Desert’ (2015)
“In our current sound-bite and shuffle era it’s encouraging to see long-form song-writing done so well. In a fairer world Beau would be a much valued cultural treasure, up alongside Dylan, Mitchell, Cohen and the like.” Harmonic Distortion (UK)
